Pseudonym Designs

Churned these out recently for a project I'm working on with some fellow Englishers. We each chose a pen name and decided to create little "seals" or logos to represent each person. I took the ideas of each person and drew them out. A few people actually did their own designs, but the ones I'm posting here were all drawn by me (with various levels of input from the people for whom they were created).

Progression.

Completed project from Painting II. After the initial washes, all the paint was applied using a palette knife. This challenging requirement forced me to reevaluate my painting style: little details just don't work the same way. I had to abandon timidity and go for bold markings, but at the same time remain balanced and aware of how the colors worked together on the canvas.

A high-quality image of the finished product will be coming later this week, but I wanted to show the development from plain burnt sienna background, to local color wash, to knife application all the way through the pretty-much-finished painting. Thank goodness for cameras on cell phones! I only wish I had taken a few more pictures during the latter half of the working time. Ah well.

whoa, it's 2010... back in business

Sorry the interim since my last post has been so abominably long. I must be gettin' lazy or something. To make up for it, here is a sizable collection of photos. Most of them are from my time at home over winter break, though this first shot is from last summer.

Summer time has come and gone

Well, I intended to post some pictures of summer as it wound down, but (rather unsurprisingly) I didn't get around to it quickly enough. So, here I am back at school. Classes started yesterday, and I already feel surrounded by the joy that permeates Grace campus. It's so good to be back!

Nevertheless, summer abounded with the blessings of refreshment, relaxation, and free time to follow inspiration at leisure. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to reconnect with everyone in Hawaii, and I appreciate my island of aloha more than I ever have before.
